Summary
After being openly shunned by the object of his affections William Pratt is faced with an ailing mother whose final wish is for him to obtain a wife. Unpopular with the London ladies Williams mother has sent a request to a matchmaking bridal institute in France.
Elizabeth Summers has been left destitute and alone, save her young sister Dawn after the outbreak of cholera in Paris, causing the young Summers ladies to be placed in the care of a finishing school, training orphaned girls of affluence in the art of being the perfect wife and matchmaking through 'mail-order'.
Elizabeth's headstrong ways have deterred suitors so far, but if she is to save herself and Dawn from a life of poverty she must learn to obtain and maintain a suitable match. Her arranged marriage to the foppish Mr. Pratt may be just the start she needs to escape destitution, after all a marriage of convenience is far better than one of love.
