Summary
The desperation in his voice isn’t anything she hasn’t heard before when previous convicts realized they weren’t able to come back. One did make it, but that was an anomaly, not the norm. A couple of them knew as they were being welded in that they were being enclosed in their tomb while still being promised that this would earn them their freedom. In the end, most of them became panicked and desperate, pleading to be brought back with breaking voices and untethered anger.
Isolation is a hell of a torture.

Ava carries a lot of guilt over the convicts that get sent into the blood ocean, but Simon hits different. She doesn't know how to deal with what she feels.

“You intrigued me,” it cooed directly into his ear.

No, that wasn’t right.

No, that was wrong…
Something in him was wrong.
“Stop it!” Simon screamed at last, desperate as he pushed himself back into Eden’s tree — but there was nowhere to go.
It was in his head.
In his body.
…In his mind.
His heart felt like it was going to explode as he held it in pain.
He thinks he’s begging. He has to be. He can feel his lips moving, but his ears are muted to the sound of his babbling. All he is — all that he can hear — is the voice of God in his ear.
“I could make you a god,” it continues, either unaware or uncaring of his distress as he watched, horrified, as tendrils of prismatic light drifted from its swirling iris. Nebulas gutted themselves before him and bled into his world so that they could curl around him.
. . .
Simon wakes after what should have been the end.

Summary
Simon "wakes up" after the explosion on the blood moon, and finds that all the stars, twinkling and dazzling, have returned to the sky. It's bright, it's beautiful, it's unreal. It's unreal. It is not real.
He is no longer tangible. Simon struggles with his new found form. A saint comes to guide him.
Simon has a new job after blowing apart the SM-13 sub as a patron saint. I saw the movie on release weekend so forgive me if my memory of exact dialogue or details is mushy. Also I don't know if anyone made a thing about Laika and Simon parallels yet so here's my contribution.
