Only then was Iron Fan struck by a terrible thought.
What if her son was bound to Sun Wukong? From what she knows these things can be caused by either sight, or touch.
Would the staff count?
Were the fates really so cruel to force her son to love that simian? That creature who has done nothing but ruin the lives of his friends or family.
“The boy.” He mutters. “The one that picked up the staff.”
Iron Fan lets out a sigh of relief. Ok, they could work with that. The boy was just a boy, not the Monkey King.
Or- Red Son, like his father before him, and his father before him, has been Lovestruck; a curse that makes him fall in love with an enemy. Iron Fan isn't happy about this, but will teach him exactly what he needs to to win the love of his life.

Summary
MK began to wash the shampoo out of Red Son’s hair, using one hand to pour water out of the basin and the other to block the soap from slipping down into his eyes. It was a small act, but one that showed a careful attention to detail that MK rarely showed to anything at all. It was the sort of sweet gesture that told Red Son he was cared for by MK, that he was loved.
“Oh.” He whispered. “I’m hallucinating you.”
(Or, MK takes care of a very sick Red Son and tries to convince him that he’s not a hallucination. Canon compliant up to Season 3)

Summary
MK was still grappling with the fact that he wasn’t human. The pit in his stomach still lurched at the idea that he wasn’t just some ordinary delivery boy. He was still trying to find himself in the inky black fog. But at the very least, there was Red Son. The simple, silly little crush MK had on him was a respite from all his problems.
Off topic, it was really weird to fantasize about kidnapping your crush, right?
