Nico didn’t even remember how the topic first was brought up. Maybe it was Will making a passing comment or himself scoffing at something on the radio. All that really mattered then was how they were screaming at each other.
“I don’t understand how you could just assume that I knew that!” Will yelled, his posture tense as he glared at Nico.
They couldn’t have been more than a foot or two apart but it felt like continents were spanning between them. Worlds, galaxies, entire universes where the only thing able to travel from one end to the other was the anger radiating off of both of them.

Nico had to skitter to a stop quickly, nearly falling into the water at the end of the road. He looked at it for a moment. ‘Canal,’ he thought. ‘It’s a canal.’
He looked up and down the canal, studying the bridges arched across it and the gondolas tied to the sides. ‘I’m in Venice,’ he realized, a sharp pain in his chest.
To his right, a cathedral stood tall. Without really thinking about it, he walked over to it, stopping in front of the large, ornate wooden doors, hand hovering over them. The wood felt almost soft beneath his fingers, so worn it bent to the will of his fingertips. He pushed the door open, stepping in.

He furrowed his brow, turning the metal ring round and round in his fingers, looking at every possible angle for an answer to a question he didn't even know. The newly shined silver almost mocked him. When he had enough he chucked the ring as hard as he could, hearing it clatter against the walls and floor, vanishing once again to an unknown place. He didn't like Will Solace, he didn't like the pain in the ass medic who always had to be right, who always nagged at Nico for things he had no right to comment on, he didn't like that the guy had his ring and he certainly didn't like that stupid smile that was always painted on his lips.

"Of course," Hades says, and Nico thinks he can see the corners of his mouth twitch upward. Hades sits on one of the couches, waving his hand. A glass, ruby-studded decanter filled with brown liquid, a tray of ice and two glasses appear in front of them.
Hades quirks an eyebrow, and Nico reluctantly joins him. Spending his birthday emotionally bonding with his father is admittedly not what he expected he'd be doing.
"We don't usually do," Nico gestures between them, "This."
