Summary

“Of course not! But—how did you get here?”
“I walked.”
“Through Rome?”
“Well, I didn't walk through Venice.”

Knowing what he knows now, Goffredo thinks he understands why Vincent held him off for so long. It wasn't piety or purity, he thinks, that made Vincent look him in the eyes and say they should honour their vows, it was privacy for this secret. Tedesco should hate it, find it sacreligious, but he has no space to judge when he is the one who desires another - not just another man, the new pope - carnally.
