“What in the hell did you do, Stevie?” Bucky hisses when they’re out of earshot of the agent at the door.
“I solved the problem, Buck!” Steve says, with a shit-eating grin that strikes fear into Bucky’s heart. “See, I was Googling, and —”
“No,” Bucky whimpers, dread welling up in his chest. “Whatever it is, no.”
They are in the small staff kitchen now, and Sam looks up inquiringly. “Don’t tell me he actually went for it,” he says, his voice gleeful.
“Of course he went for it,” Steve says, trying to keep the snicker out of his voice. “They love him in that part of town,” he repeats in a crooning falsetto.
Bucky feels like he’s about to burst a blood vessel. “What the fuck did you two do?!?”
Steve bites his lip, looking a little repentant. He unlocks his phone and hands it to Bucky, open to Google Maps.
“Four Seasons…Total Landscaping?!?” Bucky reads. “What the fu —” He hits street view, and his legs grow weak.

Sometimes things go to shit and running is the only option, Bucky knows. There’s nothing wrong with retreat, with choosing to hide, to regroup, to care for his wounds and remember his dead and try to figure out what the fuck the point of waking up even is anymore.

But he’s got nothing left to do with his life except fulfill the only promise Natasha ever asked him to make, so that’s what he’s gonna do.
Post End Game AU in which Clint is a special kind of cryptid, the kind someone with as much blood on his hands as Bucky's got has no business touching. Doesn't stop him from wanting to, though.

Bucky doesn’t panic. Or, more accurately, he doesn’t allow himself to panic. Not if he can help it. He can feel the first threads of it clawing at his throat now, though. He walks as fast as he can without jostling the whimpering mass of fur in his arms too much, squashing down the images of Barton bleeding out on the floor, of his lifeless body being carried away, no idea whether he or the dog are going to make it.
When Bucky finds Clint and his dog bleeding out in an alleyway, he doesn’t expect his life to become all about dog-sitting duties, instagram, and shitty daytime TV gameshows. He also doesn’t expect to get drawn into Clint’s latest drama. He really should have known better.
