Harry s'enfonce petit à petit dans la dépression depuis la bataille de Poudlard. Ses amis vont de l'avant tandis que de son côté, il peine à sortir la tête de l'eau. C'est sans compter l’arrivée d'une lettre qui risque de changer beaucoup de choses dans la vie du survivant.
"L’expéditeur se présentait comme un certain William Black, descendant de Marius Black, un cracmol de la famille Black, pas étonnant qu’Harry n’en ait jamais entendu parler. Parti s’installer il y a bien longtemps aux États-Unis, Marius avait visiblement laissé derrière lui une descendance non-sorcière, à en croire les dires de William. Dans sa lettre, il expliquait qu’il habitait une petite ville du nom de Forks, une famille de vampires était revenue s’installer près de la ville et l’un de leur membre s’était visiblement épris d’une jeune humaine du lycée local. N’ayant personne d’autres vers qui se tourner, William avait donc jugé bon d’écrire au Lord de la maison Black.
Harry s’assit et termina son café d’une traite. Il avait peut-être trouvé une nouvelle occupation finalement."
