As she walked down her block, exhausted and soaked from the rain, a sudden noise made her pause. She looked up just in time to see a dark figure tumble over a broken balcony railing.
“Oh my—”
THUD.
A body crashed into a stack of crates in front of her, the impact so loud and violent that Rita stumbled back in shock. The figure—disheveled, bleeding, and clearly in pain—rolled off the crates and hit the pavement with a groan.
