After years of steady partnerships and countless missions fulfilled together, the end of Mika's happiness had never seemed so close. Despite how dangerous it is for his mind to wander during a mission, Mika can't tame his anxiety.
To him, nothing good could come from eating his 100th soul and becoming a Death Scythe. He had no interest in becoming one of the weapons eligible for partnership with the director of their Academy.
No, Mika only wanted one partner, and that was very clear to him.
So how could he see the mission being fulfilled as a success, when it might take him far away from Shu?

Summary
In a remote village, far from everything, lives a weird, eccentric clockmaker whose chase after the beautiful is understood by none, and scorned by all.
Most of the time, that's fine with Shu. Solitude is but an inherent feature of an artist's life.
If only he could find understanding in someone though... That someone, Shu is sure that it is to be Nazuna.
Perhaps he's wrong. Perhaps, the one he'll find companionship in isn't even human.Essentially a retelling of Nathaniel Hawthorne's tale 'The Artist of the Beautiful'. Though the fic follows the events of the original tale quite closely, having read it isn't necessary at all to understand this story.

Summary
Shu has developed a bad habit of speaking his internal thoughts and confessions to Kagehira in French, thinking his partner couldn't understand what he was saying. Unknown to him, Mika has been taking his French lessons rather seriously, but out of pure embarrassment hasn't let his Oshi-san that he actually has heard every late night confession whispered to him over their phone and video calls. Now it's been in the works that Mika is coming to Paris to visit Itsuki, but how will he be able to keep up his ruse if he has to deal with these words in person ?
