“I was so goddamn close.” He sobbed, hugging his pillow tighter to muffle his cries. Mischa has had a growing crush on Noel which he tried to suppress knowing Noel would probably never want to date someone like him. Since his breakup with Talia last month, those feelings have only grown more and more to the point it was starting to become unbearable to even look at Noel.

Of course, Ralph had known Jack since he was an little kid, training his father's magnifying glass at ants on the sidewalk. But he never really noticed him. Until he decided that he was interested in boys and also had a bit of a rebellious streak forming. And then the boy who already smoked cigarettes and snuck bottles of whisky from home after coming back from breaks was suddenly terribly interesting to him.

The red head watched as Ralph delicately grew apart from the crowd and made his way down a less occupied hallway.
Jack found it hard to think as his affiliation made his way deeper down the corridor and away from his scrutinizing gaze. The music was so loud the redhead couldn’t even hear himself think. Everything was too fucking loud. It was hard to concentrate. His heart began to ache as the blond was no longer in his line of sight, leaving him to bask in his loneliness once more.
He was always close, but never close enough; frustratingly unattainable.

Dude I’ve always loved the trope of Jack and Ralph being almost parents to Percival (percival is my goat 🙏)
I also loved Jack entirely flipping his attitude towards Ralph right after the island

Summary
Ralph never really knew what those words on his wrist meant, and if he really had been born with the right words all along.
"Jack Merridew" had been on the inside of his wrist in barely legible handwriting for as long as he could remember. He asked his parents about it once, when he was very little, but they just looked angry and told him that it had nothing to do with anything.
His grandmother told him when he was eight that it was someone who was very special whom he would like a lot. School told him it was someone called a soul mate, and that they would want to spend the rest of their lives together.
Ralph didn't ever get it though.
