Rouge is sent on a mission to find a weapon that had been left abandoned in one of GUN’s bases. She drags Sonic along to find it, but neither of them know how to react when they discover that the “weapon” they’re meant to retrieve is actually a young, injured, terrified little hedgehog. All Sonic knows is, he can’t let GUN hurt this child again.

“Right then: how’d you get by? How did a five and six year old fend for themselves?” Gojo asked.
“I was raising Tsumiki, and Tsumiki was raising me. She’s did most of the work though, since she was older.” He paused for a moment, glancing up at Gojo before pointedly avoiding his eyes.
Gojo sighed.
“Look if you don’t-“ he started, seemingly unsure of how to continue- “understand the question, then let me change it a bit. How did you and Tsumiki come by, money-wise? I can’t imagine the nearby ramen place allowing interns that young.”

He takes in a heavy breath and pretends these cheap sunglasses hide his dark circles as they wheel the poor kid in.
"Hey," Gojo rasps. "Miss me?"
Megumi's eyes go wide in horror. His jaw hangs slightly agape. He's breathing too fast. He doesn't say a word.
“Fushiguro?” Yuji's hand hovers over his shoulder. Megumi smacks it away harshly.
He trembles as he gets to his feet, then trips unceremoniously toward the foot of Gojo's hospital bed. Satoru instinctively reaches out to catch him, but he's too slow in his sewn-up state, and Yuta gets there first.
There's tears running down the kid's face. Guilt is a weighty boulder between the two of them.
Megumi claps his shaking hand over his mouth, but he can’t contain an emotional dry heave. Yuta escorts him to the trashcan so he can sob and vomit freely in terror.
Gojo sits there stupidly, unable to do anything else.

Gojo lives to pick up the pieces of Megumi. And there's a lot to pick up.

Something ugly builds in chest as his words lash out with pure emotion, “Really? Then why didn’t you fucking save him, Satoru! You knew where we were, didn’t the thought occur to you that maybe a bunch of teenage sorcerers couldn’t take on fucking Sukuna!?”
His voice is near hysterical, and he doesn’t regret what he said. Not yet.
Or: A study of the guilt Megumi might have felt when he thought Yuji was dead, and how Gojo just had to watch him since he was unable to relieve his suffering.
