He could finally put a face to the imaginary wife. Of course, they only had less than a year together and while it was short, it had been the best time of his life.
Of course, Billy fucking Hargrove would appear like Aidonis, with his chest gleaming and his tight ass jeans. Steve had felt the tension, he just never realized until afterwards what kind of tension.

“Well-” Max dragged the word out, her eyebrows scrunching up in either discomfort or an awkward earnestness that Billy had never seen on her before.

“Bi-Billy,” it wasn’t a question. If anything, it was a demand, a demand to be heard, to listen. With sweaty hands, Billy pressed the phone harder against his ear. ‘Fuck,’ he wished Max and Lucas weren't with him. If they weren't then he'd be over to Stevie's in a heartbeat.
“Billy,” she wheezed again. “Billy I've been shot.” Something inside him froze, he could feel his grip tightening on the steering wheel and his neck prickling with a familiar sense of danger. His Stevie was hurt. “I need- I need help. Please.”
Ignoring the fact that he had two teens in the back of his squad car and was probably committing about twenty violations; Billy pressed down on the gas hard.
“I'm on my way. Just stay on the line sweetheart.” He ignored the alarmed shouts from the back as he did a vicious U-turn.

But when Steve had looked at him with those big brown eyes, begging him to keep an eye on the kids while he was on some ‘vacation’ with his asshole parents Billy couldn’t say no.
So fuck Steve for putting him in all the situations that followed that conversation. He owed him a ton of blow jobs for all the shit he had to put up with now.
