Summary
Donnie knew that he was trying to play god when he made a button to travel between universes, but he just couldn't help himself! The possibilities are too temping for him to ever resist.
He sets off the machine, and wakes up in the body of his alternate self. Hes ecstatic, for the first hour. The other version of himself should have set them back by now. Donnie could have left a note on what to do, but he assumed that no version of himself wouldn't be able to figure it out in minutes.
Meanwhile, Don is stuck in a different body, confused, and suspected of being possessed by a demon.

Donnie hesitates for a moment, and when he finally does speak his voice is soft and hushed. Ashamed, maybe. "I-It's the time of the year where some types of turtles lay eggs."
There's a pause, and a long one at that. Splinters eyes had gone wide as he pulls his hand back and leans up to get a better look at his teenager. His plastron is still flat, thank god. He looks tired but other than that there's no physical damage. Is he really going to lay eggs? How would that even work with their mutant physiology, let alone that of a developing body? Is there a chance it already happened, if it hasn't yet? And did he have to have... action... for that to be realized? Is his son okay-
"I'm not gonna lay eggs, Dad," he says suddenly, "My brain just thinks I am. So it's making me all protective and stuff."

Donnie has everything perfectly under control. Sure, sometimes he hears the voices of those who aren't there, and sometimes he's not in control of his own body- but those are easy fixes. He's fine, dare he say even better than fine! He's so fine that he even constructed a portal to other dimensions in case the Krang come back! It's not like he worked endlessly, almost obsessively, over the portal for days, missing sleep and family trying to talk to him.
He's fine!
He's even fine when the portal swallows him whole and spits him out into a new universe with nothing but his battle shell and clocking broach.
One with alternate versions of him and his brothers, just starting out and fighting their own version of Kraang and bad guys. He's even fine when he gets dragged into their upcoming battles and fights. He's going to get home anyway; what's the harm in helping out his alternate family fight against Kraang?
