He liked Stede. Not just as a friend, or a crewmate. He liked Stede, with an inflection on that second word that belonged to brainless youths kissing behind the stables, not pirate captains with bad knees and more salt than pepper in their beards.
It would be so much better if he was just attracted to Stede. That was normal. That was manageable. You just made a move and got it out of your system. If you were turned down, well, you moved on. Easy. But he didn’t just want to sleep with Stede. (And he definitely wanted to sleep with Stede.) What he wanted was so much weirder.
