Summary
After the dust of the war had settled, the kingdoms Upper Aedirn and Temeria were allowed to establish themselves under the ever-watchful eye of the Nilfgaardian empire. To ensure that the peace with Nilfgaard is kept and the alliance wouldn’t crumble both countries have sent ambassadors to represent the their interests at the imperial court.
And who would be better suited than the infamous ex-commanders that need to be removed from their respective kingdoms as to let the people forget about the reasons for war and the horrors that followed their fighting.
Iorveth and Vernon Roche find themselves together at the Nilfgaardian court, both with the goal to protect their countries from becoming marionets of the empire. “Please,” Roche says. He wets his raw lips and shifts his weight, putting his hands behind his back like he’s in parade rest. He doesn’t look down or away, but his breath comes shaky as he says again, “Please, Iorveth. I need your help.”
Iorveth doesn’t laugh or anything so crude, but his eye narrows in grim satisfaction, mouth moving like he’s holding in a wild grin, and a pang of shame and hunger lances through Roche.
“And what,” Iorveth asks, stepping even closer, so that Roche has to either stare at his stupid tattoo or tip his head back, exposing his throat to look him dead in the eye, “are you going to give me in return?”
