When she meets Sonic, a charming thief, in a chance encounter, the two strike a tentative deal - he'll train her for the tournament if she can help him bust a friend out of the castle prisons. Love and loyalty are tested as their magnetic attraction becomes hard to resist, and Sonic is given an impossible task by the maniacal leader of the camp of thieves. Eggman knew he'd target the satellite. Work smarter, not harder. While Tails could've gone to each titan individually and take out their receivers, it made more sense to target the hub itself so all of them would be vulnerable simultaneously. Sure, it put him in a vulnerable position himself—without backup—but he'd made it out of tighter scrapes before, and Eggman hadn't built a system that he couldn't hack his way out of yet.
But Eggman also knew he couldn't stop Tails from successfully infiltrating his system, so he did what he did best. He laid a trap. -

Summary
For as long as Tails can remember, Sonic's always made up a different story about how they first met. He's said he found Tails following him through the jungle, that he fell on him from out of a tree, that he caught him fixing his plane... It has become a constant just how inconsistent he can be with all these different versions of the same story. But Sonic's just having a bit of fun and exercising his right as his big brother to mess with him a little. Over the years it became their own silly tradition in a way.
Until Tails realizes the real reason why Sonic doesn't tell it right.
Time isn't a straight line, and the stitches holding their story together are a little uneven, but like Sonic says, the how isn't always what matters. That it happened at all is what does.

Summary
Growing up under the subjugation of Robotnik’s steel dystopia, you have to get your freedom however you can. For Sonic the Hedgehog? It’s through his music and traveling what’s left of the world outside of the Robotnik Republic’s reach. With his siblings, Sonia and Manic, they’ve formed a rock band called “The Underground” and tour the territories still on the fringes of freedom.
One day, their van breaks down near an outpost in the middle of nowhere, where the triplets are approached by a two-tailed fox kit who claims he can help them fix it. All he needs are a few parts and a lift to the next town. As they learn more about this strange kid and where he came from, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic find themselves as targets of Robotnik in his attempts to catch the fox and claim the technology he’s been working on for himself.
The technology in question? A way to travel between realities.

For as long as Tails could remember, it was the two of them against the world. Sonic and Tails, best friends and brothers by bond, if not by blood. There’d never been any doubt in his mind that they were on the same page. Nothing was ever going to come between them. It was a fact, and Tails had more than enough data to back it up.
What he didn’t consider, however, were the conditions they lived in when he’d drawn that first conclusion. When it was just the two of them living on their own, constantly on the move. Of course they were each other’s best friends. They were all they had in the world aside from a few meager camping supplies and Sonic’s plane.
But that wasn’t the case anymore. Stuck in one place, they had more opportunities to spend time with their friends and to make new ones. More than Tails could ever remember having at one time. Turns out learning to adapt to change is a guaranteed constant in life.
Tails wished he’d been given the memo sooner; then maybe he’d have had more time to prepare.
As their friend group expands to include both Cream and Charmy, Tails has to learn to share his big brother's attention with the younger kids. Spoiler alert: he isn't very good at it.

He… knew that hand. The numbers in his mind came faster, blaring some sort of warning as the strange feeling of panic without a heartbeat became known to him as he looked down, taking in the sight of familiar blue paint. Not a quill or strand of fur in sight. He was… he was…"
After an experiment gone wrong, Sonic and Metal Sonic wake up to find themselves in the other's body. For one, it is a dream come true. For the other, their worst nightmare made horribly real. But as it turns out, things might not be quite as simple for the either of them.
