    Summary

"Of all the ridiculous, risky things I expect of you, gambler," he said, slowly and deliberately, "bringing a trained assassin to your own home — one that attempted to kill you mere hours ago, no less — was decidedly not on the list of things I ever anticipated."

The tone was scathing, harsh and reproachful, but it did little to faze the smaller man, whose smile never faltered. "One of these days I'm going to teach you that to gamble well means being able to anticipate any outcome, no matter how ridiculous or impossible it might seem."

While on their first field assignment since Penacony, Aventurine and Ratio are surprised to encounter a vengeful Avgin mercenary. As soon as she speaks, however, a name and face from the past spring instantly to Aventurine's mind — that of his supposedly dead sister, Kadriya. In what proves to be the biggest gamble of his life, he strikes a deal with her to convince her to come back to Pier Point with him, even though he can't be sure of her actual identity. What follows is a tense and chaotic ride that none of them expected, filled with mystery, secrets, distrust… and regret.

Ratio has gone to the front lines in the battle against Irontomb, leaving Aventurine to await the end alone. And honestly, Aventurine would prefer it that way. Until he isn't alone anymore.

"And what makes you think I have any interest in going along with this game of yours?"

"A simple incentive. If you play along, you can have me in any way you want. All you have to do is pretend that you've never met me before."

    Summary

How little he knew, in all his chasing after the glance of Aeons, that all he need do was lay himself on the altar of a mortal man.

His god is looking at him now, perched upon his offering of pleasure. And better yet, unlike those cold, heedless deities he chased after in his youth, this god allows him to look and to perceive in return.

(His god would surely smite him where he lay, if he could hear the blasphemous thoughts in his head right now, and so he is careful not to give them voice.)

Who needs the gaze of Nous when you have the undivided attention of an angelic beauty like Aventurine?

Or, a short body worship fic inspired by a single, unrelated line in Amphoreus.

    Summary

Aventurine is not in the habit of allowing himself to want. Wanting is dangerous. Yearning is a vulnerability. Desires are weak points that can be exploited by others and used to take advantage and control. The responsible thing to do is to stamp them out, rid himself of them in such a way that the fantasies and the delusions are no longer appealing.

That’s what he should do. That’s what he’s trying to do. But somewhere deep in his small, hollow little heart, there’s somehow just enough of a soft core left to hope.

Hope is almost as dangerous as want.

After Penacony, Aventurine takes on the biggest gamble of his life — his heart, soul, and desires laid out on the table. He only does it because he doesn't expect Ratio to match his wager. But not only does the good doctor match it, he raises the stakes so far beyond what Aventurine could have ever allowed himself to dream of winning.

“I had better take a second look at your language module first. This will all go much more smoothly once you can communicate properly.”

    [Language module operational]

    [Motor function offline]

“Yes, I understand, but if it’s operational, then why—”

    [MOTOR FUNCTION OFFLINE]

A thoughtful pause, and then, “Ah. I see. Well, that seems a rather unintuitive design choice, if you ask me.”

    [I wasn’t, but thanks]

    “...Damned gambler.”
