    Months ago, Prince Kaz (of Kerch) and Princess Inej (of the Suli) disappeared without a trace only days after the announcement of their betrothal. Neither of them had met prior to their respective escapes, which appear to be coincidentally within days of each other.

    Kaz Brekker and Inej Ghafa met on the run and stuck together. Survival in the Barrel is better with a friend companion to watch your back. Neither of them want to go back to the lives they left behind, the stranger at the altar.
