The word ‘metal’ flings itself around in his skull, over and OVER and over and, metal turns to mental and Junior is laughing, wheezing, choking over trying to tell Daddy the joke that is in there somewhere, somewhere, he just has to find a way to make it funny.
And Daddy smiles so so wide at him, and maybe he has managed to make it a joke - a joke that can be heard - after all.
The part that is and isn’t Junior screams, he screams in unison, inside, inside, so Daddy can’t hear.
He bundles it all up, the anger and the fear and the terror terror, he has it and holds it and twists, shaking, until it burns into manic, sparking excitement.

Billions of dollars and silk suits and heavy rings dripping off fingers, but Bruce was never truly happy until he met Dick, then Jason, then the rest of them. So Gotham’s old fortune can kiss Tim’s ass.
Bernard...doesn’t seem to think so. Not in the least, if the nervous bob of his Adam's apple is anything to go by.
Tim creeps behind him, utterly silent until his nose almost tickles the back of Bernard’s neck, then whispers in his ear, “It’s haunted.”
Bernard shrieks.
Alfred opens the door.
A solid ton of polished oak and brass and institution caresses the floor in a sweeping curve, giving way to Bernard, Batman t-shirt underneath a blazer, cherry red in the face. Tim snickers beside him.
