The Japanifornia Legal Fellows County Annual Retreat was a yearly event and a yearly dread in Miles Edgeworth’s life. Every year since he had left the Von Karma estates he had been forced to participate in the glorified corporate retreat, wasting four full days of his life that he would never get back and returning to a mountainous email backlog with a tension headache that reduced his productivity for at least the next day and a half.
Then again, in previous years the corporate retreat hasn't featured a jewel theft, his sister, or his long-lost friend.

Miles was still deciding on what to protest- the fact that Wright intended to carry him down the road in full view of the public, or the fact that the absolutely wretched destination was Hotti Clinic- when all of his cognitive thought ceased to be as he was lifted into the air."
Or, Edgeworth can't stop noticing how strong Phoenix is which opens up a whole new reason to fall in love with him all over again.

Miles Edgeworth moved to Europe with the intention of furthering his career. He doesn't get the best impression upon meeting a janitor with a beanie who gets on his nerves. If anything, he'd rather not deal with such a person who comes across rude and unkempt. The opposite happens upon a chance meeting of successful card dealer who is charming and well-dressed, eventually even starts flirting with him. Something Edgeworth finds he doesn't mind.
Edgeworth doesn't know at first that the janitor and card dealer are the same person.

That doesn’t stop him from pretending to be just as invested, eager for the excuse to talk to his crush. What he doesn’t expect, however, is for Apollo to invite him over for an anime marathon, and Klavier now has to figure out how to convince Apollo that he’s more interested in the shows rather than the person he’s watching them with.

He was suddenly a bit too conscious of their proximity. Their legs had pressed closer together while they had been discussing the case.
Miles spoke, “You don’t think I’d make time for you, my oldest friend?”

There had been so many times where Phoenix likely needed support or comfort, only to be left entirely to his own devices. There had also been so many times where he had needed support, only for Phoenix to swoop in without an ounce of hesitation.
It was just as the very morning showed, his beloved sunflower sticking out even in the low light. That man made his life easier—wasn’t it about time he did the same for him?
When Phoenix falls ill, Miles sees the perfect opportunity to repay all the love and care from previous years.
