When Aurora wakes up, it's cold.
Too cold. And too dark. It's not morning yet, barely any light peeking around the curtains, and Aurora doesn't know why she's awake.
Why is it so cold? Maybe that's why she's awake. It feels like her bones have frozen solid and a jolt of pure terror goes through her. She tries to wiggle her fingers, then her toes, relieved when they move at her command. Their numbness is a little concerning, but she can move. That's what matters.

Summary
Bill Hawks is a man of science, of logic. To believe in that which can’t be seen or verified with any tool was nonsensical. To believe without proof was absurd, and so Bill did not. He isn’t afraid of a bogeyman, or that which lies in the darkest of corners. Those were the fears of children.
All that to say, Bill did not believe in ghosts. Not until after the incident.
Bill could see her sometimes, out of the corner of his eye. When he’d look, she would be gone. The first time he recalls it happening was after the explosion, during his recovery in the hospital. He thought it must just be the product of his concussion. Something was wrong with his brain, and it would surely go away after he was steady again.
She didn’t leave.

Summary
On a solitary night at home during a snowstorm, professor Layton tries to parse out his feelings about Jean Descole with the new knowledge that they are related. These questions are difficult to answer by a cozy fire with a cup of tea, and are tucked away to be dissected later.
Until there is a violent crash from the upstairs hallway, where a very much not dead Jean Descole is bleeding all over the wool rug. The brothers must grapple with the new context for their relationship, and with the armed thugs after their wounded quarry.
