Athena’s eyes flash and glow, and she raises her hands. Annabeth closes her eyes, and everything in the air sizzles to a stop. There is a faint sea breeze, and then a familiar presence at her side.
“It would be unwise of you to hurt her.”
She opens her eyes to her boyfriend’s dad standing behind her, his eyes intent on her mother, who looks like she’s about to blow her top. Annabeth doesn’t breathe, doesn’t look away from Athena, but she takes several quick steps back to stand at Poseidon’s side. It’s not conscious; it’s a move based purely on self-preservation. Still, Annabeth is aware that every step she takes into the sea increases her mother’s ire and decreases the likelihood that Annabeth will ever be forgiven.

aka: Poseidon wants Percy to ascend. He'd like it even better if Percy chose to ascend. And if the best reason to become a god is for love, it doesn't take Poseidon long to realize that he doesn't have to look any further than Annabeth Chase. Meanwhile, while Annabeth is balancing PTSD, protecting Percy, and being a good daughter of a goddess who doesn't seem to care, she now has to figure out why she is on Poseidon's radar.

He was searching his pockets for a phone he knew he wasn’t carrying when, behind him, a dark figure emerged. Nico had to very carefully stop himself from drawing his sword, but he kept a hand on the hilt. He turned around. The dark figure was a man who was probably double Nico’s size, not in height (although he did have like at least a foot on Nico) but in sheer bulk. He was wearing an entire three-piece suit, admittedly very sloppily, and that was weird enough on its own; they were in the middle of nowhere. But there was also something strange about him—some kind of dissonance between what Nico was seeing and what he felt. The stranger didn’t seem to notice Nico until his head turned, and they locked eyes.

What was happening? Hades was a thousand-year-old god. He had seen empires rise and fall. He had seen humans commit acts of heroics and atrocities. He had seen Blockbuster go out of business. Nothing should faze anymore.
And yet… his son was making a valiant attempt at his sanity.
“I have no other explanation for why you have lost your ability to think and reason,” Hades told him shortly. “Are there other obvious things I should forbid while we are on the matter? Should I tell you not to bomb Olympus? Not to die?”
“I’m going to die someday.”
“Leave me,” Hades snapped at him. Unbelievable. Nico took a long intake of breath. “You don’t need to sigh at every little thing,” he added sharply. Nico paused. “Your life is not that taxing.”
“It’s not that-? I’ve been to Tartarus!”
“And what an impression it has made on you given that you are trying to return!”
Who tried to return to Tartarus? His son. That’s who. Maria was going to somehow appear and figure out how to kill a god.
Or
Nico said Hades forbade anyone from going in Tartarus and I just want to know what that conversation looked like.

A sudden thud shook the wood of the old dock, making it creak and sway and causing bits of plank to fall.
When the dust cleared, Giovanni bit down hard on his tongue to stop himself from gasping, because now that he could see both people above him, he wasn't sure the person opposite Percy was, in fact, human."

“I think the demon Trigon is going to punch that angel.” Nico mused, struggling to hide the grin growing on his face “If they damage the throne room, I believe Persephone might knock them both down herself.”
It wasn’t an ill-made prediction, Persephone was stood at the bottom of the steps glaring at the crowd with her hands on her hips. Nico winced in momentary sympathy for the rabble; he’d been on the end of her wrath before.
“Hm,” Hades hummed in agreement “Have you been watching the soul?”
Nico followed his father’s line of sight to where a half-transparent man in a long light brown trench coat sat on the floor, cross-legged, looking far too pleased with himself. He was turning his head back and forth between the two loudest arguers of the crowd, stifling laughter behind his fist.
