The cover was plain, its leather binding worn, the faint scent of ink lingering as she ran her fingers over it. A small handwritten title read: "Dreams of the Sun."
“Always so sentimental,” Lena muttered under her breath. A part of her wanted to shove it into a drawer, to cast it aside with everything else Kara had ruined. But another part—a more curious, spiteful part—flipped it open instead.
The first page held only one line in Kara’s handwriting, delicate and almost reverent:

Although furious, Lena takes advantage of the situation, thinking the article could aid in truly breaking Kara’s heart. This farce couldn’t possibly lead to real feelings. Of course not.

Kara is quiet for a moment and looks down, suddenly interested in the fancy hardwood floor and runs the tip of her red boot along a grain. She can’t look Lena in the eye, but she hears the sigh from across the room, and the clinking of ice in her glass.
This is okay. You’re going to be okay. It’s Lena, she's warm and safe and..-
“Do you know where Kara begins and Supergirl ends?”
A car somewhere on the other side of the city hits its brakes, and the rubbery screech of tires causes Kara to look up at Lena. She knits her brow, and shakes her head, trying to dislodge the intruding sound and process what Lena is asking. This is far outside of what she was expecting; a talk about hurt feelings and all the ugly mechanics of it, but this, this is confrontational.
“What?”
“Do you even know who you are? Does anyone? Or is this,” Lena waves her free hand up and down in the space between them, “just another lie too?” she says, finishing the last sip of her drink as she walks forward.
Or, Kara walks into a disaster of her own design, and deals with a fallout that drudges up much more than just her lies to Lena
