Jor-El first learns of Dru-Zod's existence on the eighth cycle of his existence, and quite by chance. He had been on his way to the eastern cryst terrace of the El estates, to watch sundown with his twin, and had cut past the sunward planarform on a whim. His parents were leaning by the balustrade at the furthest swing of the curved planarform, and their voices barely carried over the evening wind.
"... he is hardly yet of age, Seyg," his mother looks agitated, and out of concern, Jor-El hesitates at the archway, just out of sight.

Dru-Zod wouldn't be able to explain why he kept coming to work every morning even if he was asked. Wouldn't be able to explain why he kept sitting in an empty office in an increasingly empty workblock, looking out through his mid-Strata-1 window at the squat grindr plants blocks beyond, their oily gray silos the final resting place of the dead, recycled for fuel. It's been two cycles since Zero Day, and Krypton still needs all the energy it could get to finish carving out its own grave-marker.

"The government found the ship before the Kents or they discovered its existence and tracked it to the Kent farm when Clark was still a baby. Kal-El is raised as an alien specimen in a lab. Though he eventually grows impervious to the experimentation, as a Kryptonian baby adjusting to the atmosphere he was highly vulnerable and the development of his heightened senses was unfortunately a source of great curiosity.
When Zod and his compatriots arrive and demand Kal-El, the U.S. government hands over a mostly passive lab-rat rather than Superman. How the Kryptonians react to this and what happens next is up to the author."

Summary
LJ Prompt: Kal-El was to be a bridge between the Kryptonian military caste and Science caste, the two sects having become so separated, that a child was to be born to aid in making peace between the two. Kal-El was to marry the top military leader of Krypton as the house of El was the foremost house of the Science caste and Jor-El was married already.
Lara and Jor-El wanted more for any potential child of theirs and so in secret they had a live birth, so he could choose for himself, but Krypton's days are numbered and Lara and Jor-El know Zod would become aware of their duplicity soon.
