“Well, well, well,” Snatcher drawled, his many layered ghostly voice echoing throughout the room. One of his eyes twitched angrily as he spoke scornfully at Hat Kid with an annoyed grin. “Not only a disrespectful young lady, but a disobedient one as well.”
After completing all the death wishes and (more importantly) winning Snatcher's non-existent heart, Hat Kid returns to Vanessa's mansion to investigate his mysterious past. An over-protective Snatcher follows and drama ensues. Includes a long intense fight scene between Snatcher and Vanessa, featuring Hat Kid. Contains fluff but it's gotta be earned first.
I'm trying to post all five chapters before Vanessa's Curse is released. Wish me luck!

Snatcher was aware of alternate realities. He’d recognized that he was in one, at Time’s End, one he didn’t like. And so, after the Hat Kid left and broke the heart he didn’t realize he still had, it was time to make one he DID like. She was his BFF, his favourite minion, his toy to break or praise or dress in silly outfits, his friend, HIS. Her time was his time, now.
She would never realize what was happening…

Hunter doesn't have any claim over the name Deamonne. It's not like he doesn't know that. If anything he would be a Wittebane, no matter how much the thought makes his skin crawl. More realistically, he's just Hunter, and no one in their right mind would claim him as one of their own, as family. Darius was kind to him, but the man had always been very particular about what was his; he wouldn't want a broken boy.
He knows all of this. And yet, 'Hunter Deamonne' is still what comes out of his mouth when asked about his name.
Or: Five times someone wondered about Hunter's new last name and one time they all knew.

On the day Philip Wittebane is born, the cattle grow sick.
As he grows, bad omens stick to him like tar. Harsh winters and crops failing. His was a difficult birth, and no child comes after him.
He first hears of witchcraft when he is two years old.
He grabs at something with the wrong hand, and Mother hits him. That, she tells him, is the sign of a witch, and he's already a devil-touched child. If he gives into that temptation, he'll surely fall to sin, and she might as well have him hanged there. He's dragged out to the old birch tree, rope far too long for any sort of execution tied round his neck and the branches. he's left there, until the cold hurts his skin, but he doesn’t cry. He sits quietly and recites what he heard at the sermons in his head.
(Caleb finds him out there, cross legged and calm in the snow, and unties the knots, brings him back into the warmth of the hearth. In the warm fireside light, he looks much how Philip imagines angels to be. Hair and skin so pale as to be lighter than the snow outside, silver eyes almost red, face kind and loving.)
The Wittebane brothers, from childhood to just before the Demon Realm.

“Your brother wants to talk to you,” the witch said, her stony glare betraying exactly what she thought of that idea... or at least, Philip assumed it did. The truth was that the human face was a lot less good at expressing specific emotion than people liked to collectively pretend it was, but he had just taken a knife to Caleb in front of her, and he’d quite frankly have been surprised if she’d been supportive of Caleb coming anywhere near him after that.
(Possibly, it was a sense of demonic possessiveness that compelled her to be so protective.)
“How fortuitous,” Philip replied, mildly. And it was fortuitous – swaying his brother back to his side was a grand plan, but one doomed to failure from the start without the participation of Caleb himself.
“Indeed,” the hellspawn said, eyes fixed on Philip with a quite frankly uncomfortable intensity. “Are you sane enough to hold a civil conversation with him, or are you going to try and kill him again?”
Caleb Wittebane survives an attempted fratricide.

Summary
The Demon Realm — apparently that is what it’s called — is still terrifying, but—less so, with Veralyn at his side. He… he doesn’t handle it very well. He doesn’t know how to handle it. Because it’s just that, just a realm like his own, full of people and families and schools and houses, just like Hartford. In a way, Bonesborough is almost charming; sure, it’s a lot rougher than he's used to, but he thinks he can understand the appeal of it.
But it hurts his head, trying to make sense of it all.
Witches aren’t evil. But they are, he’s known they were since he can remember knowing anything. But they aren’t. They’re just people, maybe, who are capable of magic. Spell circles. Bile sacs. No devil hellbent on the destruction of humanity, at least not in the witches’ actions.
He doesn’t handle that realization very well, either.
OR:
When Caleb Wittebane is five years old, his mother is accused of witchcraft.

Hunter never makes it into Belos' mind, and thus never finds out about the Draining Spell, or his origins. He finds out the hard way, dying on the cold, portal room floor, begging his Uncle for help.

"Akechi Goro, Ryuji," Akira's mouth says for him because his mind is already trying to escape the lunacy of this interaction.
Ryuji scratches the back of his neck. "Sorry, man. Y’know how I am with names. Tell me about him, maybe I'll remember."*****
The world wants to erase Akechi Goro from history. Akira is not about to let that happen.

He couldn’t help but think that Goro finally looks peaceful. The disgusting part of him thought it might be for the better.
Better. That’s when it dawned on him.
Goro Akechi would never get better. Goro Akechi would spend the rest of his days confined to a hospital bed.
In January of 201X, Goro Akechi is found again.
In January of 201X, Akira Kurusu's life ends.
