There's a small, younger version of Faith that senses this might be a trap and she feels that urge again to run. But Buffy's expression does not seem to be towing that line between love and hate at all. Sure, there's a barely concealed eye roll when Faith doesn't move toward the bed, but Buffy is also looking at her with concern. Faith feels, for the first time, the freedom of someone being mad at her and knowing they're not going to hurt her. She feels the freedom of being frustrated with someone and not wanting to hurt them. So Faith drops her shoulders, unclenches her fists, and walks over to the bed.

Faith looked uneasily up at the entrance to the mall. It wasn’t really her normal scene and she’d give almost anything to not have to enter the swirling mass of humanity that was sure to be inside, but she’d made a promise to herself. She was determined to find a decent present for Buffy this year.
Or, Faith and Buffy are both clueless idiots about each other, but their hearts are in the right place. And holiday shopping is not for the faint of heart.

Summary
Workplace relationships aren't exactly the easiest thing in the world for anyone, but managing a maybe-on-again love affair with your second in command when you're the general of an army of Slayers and the next thing to a living legend is a whole other ballgame of difficult. When you add dealing with freaky cults, a magic suit of armor with a straight line to your id and enough vampires and rogue, murderous Slayers to open a traveling circus, things get even more lively.
Buffy Summers is starting to think that maybe life in London might not be that much simpler than life in Sunnydale. Still, at least the job includes benefits and travel.

Faith was halfway out of bed, one arm and one leg still shackled to the metal bars. She was already looking Buffy’s way when she entered the room. They’d always been able to feel each other like that. Her brown eyes looked even bigger than usual, slightly sunken in her pale, gaunt face. Her stringy hair hung around her sharp cheekbones, inches longer than when Buffy had last seen her.
A mark of the passage of time. A reminder of how long Buffy had abandoned her here.
