Summary
“All’s in order,” Izzy says as he comes to a halt beside Frenchie. “Captain,” he adds after a moment. The word feels odd in his mouth, a title that feels old-fashioned and out of place for Frenchie, but it’s also right.
Frenchie picks on a string of his lute. “Grand.” He hums a bit of a song before peering up at Izzy, squinting against the bright light. There are little laughter lines around his eyes and Izzy struggles to look away. -

Frenchie pulls his hands away as if burned and he jumps back, his eyes wide. “Roach…”
“What?” Roach brings his hand to his head, trying to find the spot. The itching is decreasing, at least. He gasps when he feels something furry and when he tugs on it, he winces in pain. “What is it?”
Frenchie edges back even more, grimacing as he looks away. “Bad news.” His shoulders hunch and his nervous eyes dart over to Roach. “I think you’ve got cat ears.”
Roach still isn’t sure whether to believe the story about Buttons turning himself into a seagull. What better way to test it than by transforming himself?

Summary
Stede heads to the registry, towards his husband. Izzy’s already spotted him, his head tilted to the side, his eyes narrowed and Stede can see a frown forming on his face. He doesn’t usually stop by without calling first, and Izzy has always had a knee-jerk opposition to any change to their routine.
Stede’s long since learned that, with Izzy, it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Still, he has to be quick.
Before Izzy can utter a word, Stede plasters on a friendly smile. “Hello! I’m Stede Bonnet, collector,” he says in a too-loud voice and Izzy’s brows crease.
“What—”The weather has put Izzy in a grouchy mood. Stede thinks up a plan to make him less so.

“You feel guilty.”
The words hang in the air and Stede gasps with them. “No, I—”
“Stede.”
Stede falls quiet again, swallows thickly.[Audio length: 16.5 minutes]

With a hum, Izzy tilts his head back and stares at him. It’s not an angry stare or the disdainful one that makes Stede roll his eyes, it’s just… Izzy. Looking at Stede.
“I dreamt,” Izzy’s leg thunks on the deck as he steps closer. “That you kissed me.”
An embarrassing chuckle escapes Stede, something too loud and too jarring to be explained away.

Stabbed by the Kraken to protect Stede at his return to the Revenge, Izzy is brought to the Bonnet Estate to recover under Mary’s supervision. He bides his time, waiting for Edward to return – but when he learns of Blackbeard’s death at Ocracoke, he has to choose what to make out of the wreckage that his life has turned into.
Luckily, Mary is very good at keeping Izzy busy – there is always some work to do on an estate this size, after all – and with the Bonnets and their circle of friends (and more), Izzy might just get a new chance at finding a place to call home… and a family.
