Tails charges into the house with a bundle in his arms. "I made a mistake!" He's on the verge of tears; Sonic's at his side in an instant, Tom and Maddie close behind.
"I— I was working on an invention, and Knuckles was helping me—"
"Knuckles was helping you?"
"Well, he was listening, but it was helpful! It— it exploded! And I don't know if it was chaos energy or if I did something, but— but—"
"Something exploded?" Tom echoes incredulously.
"Is anyone hurt?" Maddie interjects, "Where's Knuckles?"
Tails shifts the bundle. Laying there, small, miserable-looking, and quite frankly adorable, is Knuckles.

Fortunately, the Wachowski family is strong enough to support one other through anything.

“It does me no good to track someone right in front of me.” he said, causing Tails to snort.
“Yeah…I know…I was just demonstrating.” Tails replied with humor.
“Can you demonstrate this from a distance?” the echidna asked, his purple eyes looking down at the fox. “I would like to ensure it works.”
“Well…I could activate Sonic’s or Tom’s. It would show them at the police station, but it would show a distance.” Tails replied.
“But I cannot be sure the position is accurate…” Knuckles continued, gaze shifting toward the window. “How can I trust the location is precise.”
Tails let out a sigh and rubbed at the back of his neck. His explanation was apparently not enough. He was going to need to show Knuckles, and knowing the echidna he expected this to happen now. Tails looked longing back at his half finished project, let out a soft huff, then turned back toward Knuckles.
“I guess I can show you now…” Tails responded, putting his own communicator on his wrist. “So I guess one of us can go hide?”
“I will do so and you will see if you can track me!” Knuckles answered.
Tails smiled back. “Sounds good.”
