Summary
After that first day, Dustin doesn’t emerge from his room for a week.
He’d been fine- well that’s what he told everyone when he clearly wasn’t, but Hawkins had four big cracks in it, Max was in a coma and Vecna was still alive, so there were obviously more important things to worry about.
Now, curled up on his bed, tears long dried out, he just feels hollow.
Eddie is dead, and it’s all his fault.

Summary
Dustin has grown used to the heroes ending, the ending where they all end up okay in some capacity.
Sure there’s the nightmares, the injuries and the scars, but nobody dies, nobody who really matters to The Party anyways.
Will comes back, El comes back, and eventually in the future, Hopper comes back.
After the Russians under Starcourt, there was always the niggling doubt in the back of his mind that they weren’t done, that the Upside Down would come back.
That’s what always happens in the movies.
This doesn’t, though.
Dustin in the immediate aftermath of Eddie’s death.

Keep moving, because if you stop to think, it will all catch up to you. There is time for that after, not now, no, not whilst they’re still looking for you.

Summary
Steve Harrington was not a good person. At twelve years old, he spat in Richard Blakeson’s face and called him a pussy for crying so that Tommy would think he was cool. At fourteen, he planted cigarettes in Carl Marksley’s desk so that he would get detention and make his girlfriend Brenda available for the weekend, steaming up his dad’s car that he legally wasn’t allowed to drive. At sixteen, he called the Byers family a bunch of queers and pushed Jonathan Byers so hard that his knees scraped bloody against the asphalt.
It was right of Byers to beat his head in. It was right of Nancy to leave him for Byers a year later. It was right for Billy to break a plate over his head, right for the spittle-ridden demodogs to gnaw at his ankles, and right for the Russians to break his ribs. Paster Rodgers once said that a lack of peace was the culmination of sin made by man. The horrors in Hawkins were not due to chance but due to divine retribution.
So even when Dustin said, “I wish it was you,” and his mouth snapped shut, his face going so pale that he looked like he might pass out right there, Steve Harrington knew, despite all the regret painted on Dustin’s face, that he was right for saying it.

ACTUALLY INSANE ABOUT THIS I FEAR

Summary
Then, when sobs turned to sniffs, and hammering hearts turned to steady beats, Steve tried to lighten the mood and put on his best teasing voice.
“You know, maybe you should practice your running? Get a little faster so you can outrun the monsters instead of tripping. You should join me on my next run.”
And it was nothing but a joke, yet for some reason, Dustin agreed to it, and he looked so eager to do so that Steve couldn’t find it in himself to admit that he wasn’t serious.
OR
Steve and Dustin have a heart to heart and then they go for a run? Fun times.
