   Pearl almost trips. She probably would have if Three wasn’t wrapped around her as they shuffle through the crowd. “What?”

   She focuses on her feet.

   “You heard me, Pearlie,” Marina trills.

   Pearl can’t quite feel her feet. She swallows thickly. When did her heart speed up so much? “Nope. Don’t think I did.”

   “Pearl. No offense, but I’ve been counting down the days until I get to see you again. I think I like you. Don’t ruin the moment.”
