After being knocked out by Zack in the basement library, Sephiroth comes to the realization that the mansion was a trap of Hojo's creation. He doesn't know what the purpose of the experiment was, and he decides he'd actually rather not know.
He's hungry and filthy from not taking care of himself. His hair is doomrat's nest he can't seem to untangle. Who knew the weight on his shoulders could be lifted by cutting it all off? Who knew a half delirious hair cut would lead to him faking his death and defecting from Shinra?

Summary
Sephiroth knows that his is a special, and cursed, existence. He has no secondary gender, has never had a first heat or a rut, and he can neither sense nor project emotions through pheromones. Hojo, of course, is thrilled by this. He says it means Sephiroth is perfect, above such animal natures. It's just one more thing that sets him apart from everyone else.
Genesis and Angeal just want to grow closer to their squad-mate, try and get him to relax around them and learn more about him. But after Rhadore, Sephiroth is terrified to let anyone close to him for fear that they will disappear the way everyone who's ever cared for him has been.
Sephiroth thinks he can keep everyone at a distance, to protect them from himself if nothing else, but all that goes out the window when he goes into heat.

Summary
Twelve-year-old Tim Drake has homework to finish and dinner waiting at home. He even has an invitation to spend time with Bruce before patrol the next day reviewing toxins and antidotes. It doesn't matter that Bruce prefers to keep things all-business and down in the Batcave. Having Robin again is helping, Tim can already see that, and it's always a relief to know when he's invited back.
Sixteen-year-old Tim Drake decides that he'd rather keep his distance from the tempting research project Bruce has across two work tables. It's archaeology and time travel all at once, even more interesting than usual after Bruce's long trip through time, but Bruce probably won't crack that in one night. Getting involved in the project will eliminate Tim's chance to escape to his apartment for a quiet evening rather instead of struggling through an awkward dinner with Jason and Damian and Bruce.
When the Tims suddenly switch times and places, twelve-year-old Tim has an invitation to dinner and sixteen-year-old Tim knows just what kind of ripples someone can leave from the past.
