Kris tasted like cigarettes and sugar. Susie could smell the apple in their hair and the tobacco they reeked of as she impulsively kissed them. All together, it was like having a smoke while eating an apple pie. But instead, you’re watching the apple pie light up its own cig while in your lap.
Susie hated it, the first time.

Summary
In some ways, Susie is alike to the sun and Kris is nothing more than a sunflower beneath her. Unable to do anything but face her and bask in her beauty and warmth. Her light bright and blinding but it’s impossible for them to look away. They don’t think they would even if they could, after all, there's no better sight than Susie’s shining eyes and beaming smile.
