Coward, the voice inside his head whispers. You ran away, like always. What must Mr. Yang think of you? He is disappointed, he notices her absence, he entrusted you with her safety–
In two large strides Mr. Yang comes to stand in front of Dan Heng. He meets the older man's gaze, making a conscious effort not to flinch away.
And then Mr. Yang is wrapping his arms around him and holding him close while his shoulders tremble. Dan Heng freezes, the side of his brain registering contact as threat being overpowered by the one that recognises this as home.
“I'm sorry,” is the first thing Mr. Yang says, “Dan Heng, I'm so, so sorry.”
Dan Heng and Stelle part ways, and Dan Heng finally leaves Amphoreus.

He pressed himself back against the wall, as though it might swallow him whole.
