Summary
Dream learns that from 1689 on, Hob's life has been safe. Too safe. Improbably safe. Nothing bad or extraordinary or even terribly special has happened to him since Dream began to consider Hob his friend. Dream knows this because during his imprisonment, Hob's life became exciting again and suddenly went back to normal the day Dream was freed.
Hob is not convinced that Dream is the reason for this. Dream disagrees. They talk about it. And fight about it. And some things that they've probably needed to talk about for a long time finally get said.

Summary
Hob Gadling is recently divorced and not in a good mental place when Dream walks into the New Inn over thirty years late for their appointment.
So, instead of warmly welcoming Dream, Hob decides to finally give him a piece of his mind. As far as he's concerned, it's Dream's turn to be the good friend if he wants Hob back in his life.
He was not expecting Dream to take him up on that challenge.

Summary
Desire of the Endless, as it turns out, is a terrible father.
Having gotten a random jailbird pregnant, Desire ends up saddled with a child they can not care for. Deciding to give it up for adoption, they're stopped by Dream, who took one look at the child and felt the nightmares plaguing the little babe.
Dream struggles to be a father again after millennia, and following a fateful meeting with Hob Gadling, he decides to put this new friendship thing to the test.
OR Dream adopts Desire's child and Hob helps him raise her.

Summary
Hob usually dreamt about all the things that were still out there, unexplored. He dreamt of sailing and flying and strange inventions. Sometimes he had nightmares, altered memories of past wars, or dead loved ones. They were always heartbreaking, but this one, this particular nightmare, was different.
More than a hundred years after "the friendship incident" in 1889, a nightmare had the sheer audacity to haunt Hob, leaving him waking in cold sweat night after night.

Summary
Hob Glading thought he would not see his Stranger for a very long time (he said so himself after visiting him in a dream) but then the next night Hob gets pulled in another dream, one with old gods and monsters feasting in a great hall with his Stranger as their host.
