And all Cooper wanted to do -- his favorite thing -- he wanted to say he'd been right and she should have listened.
Except Lucy can't stand on her own two feet, and she's chapped and sunbaked and hardly there at all. Her big, wide eyes are dull and filmed over, her skin's all red and raw and her hands are a sickly white turned red at the wrists. Even as he parted his lips, to boast about how he was always right, he can't get the words out.
What a goddamn disappointment.
