Tim hums, leaning his forehead down against hers.
“Can I tell you something vulnerable?” he asks.

Just a lil post-ep something for 8x03, because domestic Chenford is everything and I loved the DOD throwback but wish we’d gotten just the tiniest bit more :’)

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” he says, holding it to her. She reaches out to take it from him, her face doing that adorable surprised look he adores.
“I thought we agreed no presents, just being together,” she says, a hint of a whine in her voice.
“Oh please, like I believe that you, Lucy Chen, stuck to that,” he retorts, and her face immediately breaks into a mischievous grin. His voice gets softer. “Open it, sweetheart.”

Summary
Lucy’s head drops back to the bed and he thinks she must’ve been up all night worrying about him if she’s still this tired.
“If you won’t go home and rest, at least get some rest here, okay? The couch folds out. I’m good,” he tells her softly.
She studies his face and then nods silently.
His eyelids have been getting heavy since the medicine hit his bloodstream and he knows he’s seconds from sleep, too.
He pulls their hands up to his chest and rests them there against the steady thumping of his heart.
His eyes close but his fingers tighten even more around hers for a second and he feels her squeeze back.
“I’m glad you’re here,” he whispers.

“You should’ve taken the bribe, Sergeant; started a new life,” Everett says.
Tim stares him down. “There’s no way that ever would’ve happened,” he says plainly. He won’t ever throw away his integrity like that, no matter the cost.
“I don't need that kind of money. I don't even want it,” he had told Everett during the arrest, and he hasn’t changed his mind on that. “Maintaining my integrity? That's priceless.”
“This mistake will come back to haunt you,” he had responded. “You have my word on that.”
“In that case,” Everett responds, smiling eerily, “You really should’ve just gone to jail.”
