Summary
A few months after what happened on the mountain, Jaskier sends Geralt a letter to apologize, to say he wishes they had been more honest with each other. Geralt replies, and thus starts the promise of a better friendship between them. But Nilfgaard marches on before Geralt can truly apologize, and he's trying to get Ciri to the safety of Kaer Morhen when he hears the news: Jaskier the bard died.

Jaskier and Geralt are in Oxenfurt in late summer; Jaskier decides that it’s the best time for them to go on a walk – there are so many places he wants to show to Geralt, and he quite enjoys spending time with him. Well, there still are dark clouds in the sky, but it won't rain, no matter what Geralt says.

Jaskier is in Oxenfurt after spending the winter there, waiting for Geralt to come in spring as they agreed. Unable to stay still, he decides to go for a walk. Surely a walk through the city won't hurt, right? And if he meets his best friend while he's out, well. Happy coincidences and all that.

Jaskier has always felt lonely – as the god of memories, he isn’t exactly useful to humans – or to anyone, really. Then one day he meets another lonely soul in a tavern in Posada, and thinks that he has found someone that will stay his friend.
Then, on the top of a mountain, his very best friend in the whole wide world tells him what he truly thinks of him, and – well. Jaskier's the god of memories, right? He can take himself off of Geralt’s hands – he can erase the witcher’s memories.
But Geralt keeps on hearing songs about himself, and a man he doesn’t know keeps on appearing to save him when he’s on the verge of dying – who is he? And what does he want? -

Summary
It’s been six months since the end of their supposed friendship, and Jaskier is in a tavern when he hears it. The song. A song about Geralt that he hasn’t written – that someone else wrote for the White Wolf.
Turns out Valdo Marx himself wrote it and – well. At least Geralt isn’t alone. It doesn’t matter if the one person that replaced Jaskier is the man he hates the most.
Meanwhile, Geralt hears the song and believes Jaskier gave permission to his students to write songs about him. That means that Jaskier has given up on him – and even though it’s only fair, the thought hurts. -

After Cintra fell, after they rescued Ciri and brought her to Kaer Morhen, after they left her with Yennefer to be taught about magic – after everything, when Jaskier, who hadn’t once left Geralt side, always sunny, always supportive – when his friend, à propos of nothing, in late spring, had suggested “Let’s go East, I want to see some mountains. Forests are nice, but you know what can really be soothing? Mountains. Open fields of grass, with some cows and sheep laying there. Flowers.”
Well – Geralt, who had long ago admitted to himself that there was nothing he could refuse Jaskier, had agreed.OR
Geralt and Jaskier go on a vacation. Geralt gets to pet a dog and to think about his feelings for his friend while Jaskier gets to hold a lamb and to read to his witcher.

Jaskier finds a puppy on the side of the road and immediately decides to adopt him. Geralt, not really wanting an animal to be close to him because of the way they don’t like him, lets him do that because there isn’t anything he can refuse Jaskier.
But his self-esteem issues and his incapacity to communicate, on top of his fear of Jaskier finally realizing that there is more he could do than follow a witcher in muddy swamps, makes him hurt them both before he finally talks to his bard about certain feelings that he’s been hiding.Or: in which Jaskier finds a puppy, immediately adopts him, and Geralt becomes the “dad didn’t want a dog//dad and the dog” meme.

It had been a week since Jaskier had last played the lute.
They had passed through two towns, he had been asked to play multiple times by travelers they had met, and still his lute had stayed in its case. He had taken it out to take care of it, making sure that it was fine, that the strings were not damaged, but other than that – it had been a week since Geralt had last heard his bard playing, and it worried him.
