If there was one thing Marinette had always known, it was that she was born unlucky. Not in the sense that her situation or life was bad, but more in that she was the problem. She had started suspecting this years ago, when words stopped coming out the way she wanted them to and Chloé’s bullying had only gotten worse and worse. But, ultimately, nothing proved Marinette more right than the first day of the new school year.
Really, finding the god of bad luck and destruction hidden in her purse was just confirmation.

Seeing Sun Wukong’s familiar face in the unknown crowds of Vacuo is strangely comforting. His face brightens when he sees her, and Weiss can see the exact moment he looks behind her, then next to her, looking for a team that is just not there anymore. Something in his expression falls, but then he remembers her, and the smile returns. Sun waves, clearly expecting her to come over. But Weiss has always been selfish, and something inside her viscerally does not want to be the one to tell him, so she looks away and lets herself become lost in the crowd of refugees, letting the exhaustion set inside her bones.
((Or: in which Weiss’s team has gone and fallen into a giant pit, and she should probably go deal with that.))

“You know,” Alya said, her dryness traveling all the way from Paris to New York, “when I said ‘take a break’, I didn’t mean drop everything and go to god-knows-where without telling anyone.”

Marinette just laughed at him. Her giggles were light-hearted, but Félix couldn’t help but feel like she was making fun of him. “Well, you said you haven’t baked before, right? Don’t you want to learn?”
He leaned against the counter top, listening to the tapping of the rain outside. It was ridiculous how trusting this girl was, just letting some random boy into her home. Who was to say he wouldn’t swipe a few things as he left?
Her eyes were still pleading for an answer, so he sighed and said, “Sure. Whatever.” Because, really, baking with a random stranger was better than the rain. And definitely better than being around his cousin. “Just until the rain dies down.”
She grinned- like he was somehow doing her a favour- and continued to grab through cabinets for ingredients.

The sharp talons of the raven dug into her shoulder, scratching into the fabric of her blazer. Its face leaned up towards her, and Lenore was almost afraid that it was going to peck at her. “Hmm… I believe that you, my dear, are rather lost,” it said, voice sounding like ground rocks.
She blinked down at it, not knowing if she should just accept the talking bird without question or scream. It wasn’t exactly the oddest thing she had seen that day, considering the slithering shadows that had followed her past the tree line, their shapely bodies hooking themselves around the moonlight.
(she decided, ultimately, to take the talking bird at face value. because, dream or not, it was the friendliest beast she had seen since waking up)
“Lost,” she replies slowly, this being the first conversation she has had since, well, she couldn’t remember, “implies that I am meant to be somewhere else.”
The raven let out a loud squawk, feathers puffing and wings fluttering along with it. Lenore couldn’t help but feel like it was laughing at her.

Sayori turned in her bed, the covers twisting- twined around her limbs like rope. She rubbed at her eyes, pretending that she had been asleep at all, though there was no one around to believe the lie anyways. Her phone was just within reach, buzzing against the wood of her night table, so Sayori reached for it, answered, and asked “Monika?”, sounding just as dazed as she felt.
“Ah,” she heard, Monika’s voice scratchy-sounding through the line, “you’re here.”
“I was sleeping,” Sayori said, not really knowing what she’d meant.
There was quiet muttering from the other side, the not-understandable kind, before all Sayori could hear was the telling ‘beep’ of hanging up.
Well, that was weird. (she didn’t end up going to sleep at all that night)
