    Damian was a lot like his father in many ways. He had the same analytical mind, the same determined set to his shoulders, and the same striking black hair. One thing no one expected him to inherit though, was his fathers predilection towards taking in (read: kidnapping) strays, but as father and son gaze down into the dark alley, watching the tiny spider child wrap what looked to be a moldy burger in silk, they came to an understanding.

    He thrashed, eyes flying open against the gritty burn, arms and legs flailing against the viscous green goo he was suspended in. Green green green. Everything was green, it seeped into his pours, tainting his skin. He tried to claw himself upwards but he didn't know which way was up. Nausea flooded his stomach, bile building in his mouth and mixing with the green. He retched into the water, sucking in more green with each gag. He arched, legs kicking out against nothing as he clawed at his throat. Darkness crept into the corners of his eyes, creeping closer and closer and Peter heaved and gasped into the green.

    Everything went dark.

    “No, c’mon Spider-Man, that way is up.”

    Peter Parker dies on Titan, staring up at a yellow sky that he wished was blue, and then he was choking back to life in a pool of green. He doesn’t know what’s happening, but his healing factor is being weird and he doesn’t look like he did before.

    The man in the Red Hood says he can help, and maybe, just maybe, Peter will let him.

    Peter had always known they weren’t well off.

    He wasn’t stupid, even when he was small. He knew that May clipped coupons, that she hesitated before putting name brands in the cart, that sometimes the milk was watered down just a little bit more than it had been the week before. He knew that when other kids at school talked about vacations or “just ordering food,” it wasn’t something he could casually chime in about.

    But knowing was different than sitting at the kitchen table, shoulders hunched over a stack of envelopes with big red letters screaming OVERDUE across the front.

    Oww, Peter thought blandly as he shifted- no, scratch that, tried to shift- onto his back but quickly decided that wasn’t in his best interest. Voices, both his own and not, swam in his head like a wave beating against his forehead.

    “They’re coming here because of me, right? Because I’m Peter Parker? So cast a new spell, make everyone forget who Peter Parker is. Make everyone forget me.”

    “It wouldn’t be enough. Your very presence would destabilize this universe.”

    Peter finally managed to roll himself over onto his back, ignoring the sharp pain that shot through his spine at the movement enough to sit up and look around. He was in an alley which thankfully held no occupants save himself and the trash littering the ground.

    “But I can… I can send you away. To a place where there is no Peter Parker. No Spiderman.”
