The fact that Light knows how to create a small combustible in his desk drawer is impressive, but it doesn't mean he has much prior experience with those things. Certainly not enough to guarantee that if his safety measure were to activate, it wouldn’t, say, set his entire desk on fire before he had a chance to even try containing the blaze.
Light panics hard when he realizes what’s happening, then harder still when he searches through his clever honor-student mind and comes up with absolutely nothing helpful for stopping a fire that he fucking started in his own goddamn desk drawer.

Hayato was the four year olds Japanese name, since they were raising him in Japan they thought giving one to him was appropriate. They chose Hayato since it was pretty close to Haitao. They also gave him a different surname to use in public since Xie-Hua was a bit unconventional and for privacy in case any spirits or cures tried to seek out their pup.
