I think I hear an odd sound just as I pull out my keys. I pause for a moment and tilt my head to see if I can hear it again, but all I hear is the chirping of crickets. I shrug and go to unlock my car when I hear a clear and plaintive meow! from the alley and my mind sharpens so quickly I almost black out.
