The doorknob turned with a slight creek, setting everyone’s nerves on fire. Goosebumps riddled their arms, their hair stood at the base of their necks. With a halted breath, Hopper used the tip of his pistol to push the door open, bracing himself for what was inside.
Silence.
Dustin’s eyes widened.
Nancy’s daw dropped.
Robin blinked a few times too many.
Max let a small smirk slip, before schooling her expression.

Steve's feet stumbled more than walked, but Hopper didn't care. He half-carried, half-dragged the kid toward the emergency room doors, his jaw clenched so tight it ached. Every step felt like it took too long.
As the two of them started to slowly stumble to the front of the ER, Hopper took a brief moment to think about it. Took a moment to think how despite everything—despite barely knowing the kid, despite all his preconceptions and assumptions, despite the amount of times Steve had purposefully acted like a smart-ass punk just to piss him off—Hopper had realized something tonight:
Steve Harrington was a good kid.

Beatrice clutches to her husband’s, Daniel Harrington’s, arm tight. “Steven!” she chokes out around a sharp, too short intake of breath. Without thinking, without question, she moves one foot in front of the other. Lets her fingernails drag along Daniel’s robed arm, harsh and quick. However, right at the edge of the tape, a man in pale blue stops her.
