Summary
There were many reasons why Nicky was better suited to being a sniper than Joe was. One of them was Nicky’s patience. Another was Joe’s tendency to forget his surroundings when absorbed enough in his current object of interest. Although he had to know perfectly well that Nicky was in the next room, that the door was ajar, and that Nicky could hear every word he said, Joe was carrying on a conversation with the kitten as if they were the only two beings in the cottage.

“It’s August,” Nicolò said dryly, taking a sip of his wine. “We met, if you want to call it that, in July.”
Yusuf waved a hand. “Details, details.”
