And it’s not to say that she’s not grateful for the distraction, because she really is, but Nancy was not known for her ever-growing forbearance and she was quite frankly, on the cusp of a mental breakdown. After the months she’s had, she needed at least one win, just one fucking tally mark under her name to give her a sense of a purpose. To remind her that she was capable of moving on, and starting over again, again.

The girl – woman – laughs dryly, tipping her head back. “I hate stuff like this.” She snorts at herself. “Poor little rich girl, amirite?”
Ace looks down at himself pointedly and shrugs. “I wouldn’t know.”
She laughs again, sweeter this time, and then looks surprised at herself, like she wasn’t aware she was capable of making such a noise. He finds it weirdly endearing.
