Summary
“I’m searching my memory, did we have any skilled doctors among the eunuchs?” Gaoshun found himself thinking aloud. The young man sitting at the desk did not respond; if anything, he froze. He would not have the answer to such a question, but Gaoshun was sure that that was not the reason for his stillness. Ever since Master Jinshi and Xiaomao each returned following their outing through the Pleasure District, there was an oppressive air hanging over the two. In his report, Basen did not mention anything that seemed strange between them, past maybe a fleeting moment where Master Jinshi grabbed the girl’s arm before they went their separate ways, but surely that was not the cause of such discomfort.
A knock pulled both men out of their thoughts.******
