Summary
"Until finally the Downworlders had enough and banded together- fairies and warlocks and werewolves and vampires all as one fought back against the Shadowhunter’s tyranny. It was an ugly war, many lost on both sides, but eventually the Downworlders emerged victorious. The warlocks created a spell to strip the Nephilim of their source of power, their angelic Runes, leaving them as weak as humans. Their steles were confiscated, as were their weapons and their lands. They were reduced to nothing. This became known as the Accords War, the time when Downworlders gained their independence, and the Shadowhunters crumbled."
Now Shadowhunters are enslaved as Pets and sold to Downworlders for their amusement. When Magnus goes to buy his first pet, beautiful, tragic Alec Lightwood, he has no idea what he has just gotten himself into.(DISCONTINUED, ch 7 is just an apology, not actual content).

“Lightwood, you have petitioned us for a… stay on the kill order to be placed on your parabatai, Jonathan Morgenstern,” the Inquisitor starts, and Alec has to stop his flinch at the name they use for Jace now. “The Clave has decided to grant your request… but there will be a cost.”
It is almost without hesitation that Alec says, “Name it.”
“There is word of a… faction of downworlders who are considering an alliance with Valentine,” the Inquisitor says. She’s surprisingly cautious in how she says it, especially when she’s probably going to send Alec in to deal with it. He can’t think of any other reason for her to bring it up like this. “We need someone to go undercover amongst the downworld and report back to us whenever anything is discovered.”
Alec sees the subtext. It’s a suicide mission, and as a gay man and Jonathan Morgenstern’s parabatai, you’re expendable.

"I told you that you wouldn't like the consequences of not paying me. Well, what am I going to do?" Magnus' cold brown eyes locked onto Maryse and Robert who swallowed.
"Please, we just need a little more time," Maryse begged as Magnus tsked when a bat came down to smash at the desk Robert sat at.
"I gave you a month. That's more than enough time to get me the money. Now, I got to be the bad guy." He growls, flashing his golden eyes. "I'm gonna need collateral until you decide to pull the rest of the money out of your ass." He comments with a sharp grin.
"What--What do you want?" Robert asked, trembling when Magnus picked up the picture on Robert's desk before pointing to one of his kids.
"Him. I want this one." He smiles as Maryse's eyes widened in horror.
"Please! Don't take him! We'll get you the money!" She whispered.
"Oh, I know you will. This boy will ensure that. What's the kid's name?" Magnus looked to Robert, ignoring Maryse's sobs.
"Alec... Alexander." He whispered softly as a warm smile spread across the Warlock's face...
