The sign read “KA AOKE 27”. The R had been blacked out for as long as she had been there, and she didn’t have enough curiosity to wonder what the 27 was for. This wasn’t a place she lingered. This was a place where she got what she wanted and left.
It was the kind of place that on the weekends was alive with bachelor parties and dance nights, pulling a crowd just big enough to keep the lights on. Anything to allow the place to otherwise be open all night every night.
Tonight, however, was a Tuesday night. Zoey needed to blow off some steam after being completely undermined in a producer meeting today by a man twice her size with half her expertise. She needed to make someone scream her name.
