Daemon Targaryen has 3 rules in order to love:
You must be Valyrian (she is).
You must have a dragon (she does).
You must not be a cunt (she isn't -- at least she doesn't think she is).
Yet Alyssa Targaryen knows that her father does not wholly love her. She does not know if it is her brown hair, or her temper, or simply her sex, but The Rogue Prince has never had time for his firstborn daughter.
Alicent Hightower has 3 rules in order to love:
You must be pious (he is not).
You must care for your family (he does not).
You must not be a cunt (he most certainly is).
Aegon knows that his mother abhores him. Knows that she had tried to be caring, as much as the spawn of Otto could be. But he made it too difficult. He was a child who wanted the attention of his father and the warmth of his mother and received neither.
Aegon and Alyssa have never exactly seen eye to eye, even if they are more similar than they thought. It's an accident, really, that they stumble upon each other. But the solace they find in one another cannot be broken once it is forged.
