Summary
Sunny thinks about it. He likes Kel, his big smile and his warm hands and his carefree attitude. He’s funny and nice and he makes Sunny feel comfortable. There are very few people who Sunny is really okay with touching him, with looking at him and seeing him so completely in the way that Kel does… but Kel is definitely one of them.
So… Sunny nods. And then he scoots closer and puckers his lips, because he’s not really sure what else to do. Kel adjusts himself a few times, and Sunny can feel it from where he’s sitting, and then—
It’s the quickest little peck of their lips. It makes a smacking sound, not unlike the big mwah! Mari makes every time she kisses Sunny on the head. It’s such a brief touch, all Sunny can really process in the wake of it is that Kel’s lips are… really, really warm. And chapped. Sunny feels in his pocket for chapstick, then hesitates, since he’s been using it on his own lips and it’d probably be weird to offer.
On the other hand, if that kiss just now means they’re dating, maybe it’s not weird.

Mari says that she knew she and Hero were dating the first time they kissed. Sunny takes this to heart after a practice kiss with Kel.

Summary
An epilogue following the true end, in which Sunny remembers how to be a real person & his friends grapple with the truth. No ships in particular but arguably also all ships, since Sunny has a lot of Big Feelings about his friends.

Then everything is different and the same.
The water comes out of the taps differently, in thin little lines that prick too-hard at his skin. Sunny imagines that they’re the first wave of an ongoing invasion, the stinging tendrils of a far larger hivemind. And the Hive Mother is so, so old. To her, the whole of the Glittering Harbor is just another little flicker of light. Her foot soldiers advance and the skin on Sunny’s back falls away cleanly. She yawns and the city stands empty, apartments stiff and silent like toy soldiers. She blinks a thousand onyx eyes and the harbor’s boiled dry, the skyline only dust. A city for ghosts.
Also, the ceilings are higher. And Sunny can see the ocean from his bedroom window.
Here’s what’s the same: The house is big and white and empty. Mom doesn’t come home. His sister is dead. Sunny is alone.

Hero exhales a relieved, almost disbelieving breath. It tickles.

"But... You have a big sister like me. That's better, right?" Mari looked over at her little brother.
He got up from his bed, looking back at his sister.
"I don't know." Sunny shrugged, leaving the room.

Ever since Mari and Sunny's family moved into this place called Faraway, Mari was ridden with extra classes and piano lessons. She was just too busy to have fun with her little brother. He did acquire friends, which was great in Mari's opinion! Though, she didn't like one of them.
He wasn't Sunny's big brother, so why did he keep acting like one?

In other words, Mari doesn't meet the gang because she is too busy, but Sunny does meet them. He is also very close to Hero and treats him like a big brother. Mari is jealous.
