Summary
Sanji has been running from his identity for half of his life, hating it his whole life. He has no choice but to conceal his ability to wield fire, Zeff banning him from working in the kitchens in order to protect him.
When a skirmish breaks out at a border to the kingdom, Luffy recommends Sanji to replace him as guard to the Prince, leaving him alone with a man he'd believed to be spoiled and lazy, and the one person who put him most at risk to being discovered.

He doesn’t house the ambition and drive his older brother does. He wants to do a decent fucking job, get decent pay, and retire at the ripe old age of sixty two.
He doesn’t want to spend his entire afternoon digging into why his most peaceful island of the six was suddenly in an uproar of chaos.

Summary
It’s on one such sunny afternoon that Sanji finds himself sitting at the base of a large tree, enjoying the warm temperatures while simultaneously shaded by its leafy branches. It’s peaceful out here, so much so that he can almost pretend he’s not a patient in a hospital who has no real plan for what he’s going to do next.
He flinches as that thought occurs to him, his shoulders already hunching protectively up around his ears. At the same time, completely without his permission, his hands start to bury themselves in his hair, tugging at the strands until they hurt.
“Stop it,” he tells himself sternly, rocking slightly back and forth. “Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. You’re fine. Everything’s going to be fine. There’s nothing to worry about here. Germa’s done, the rock’s done, and you made it through both. You’ll - ”

Half of him wishes Akai hadn’t been so clear. Wishes that Rei could still read into Akai’s soft smiles, his light touches, the way he invites him out to dinner and lets him settle in his arms.
But Akai had. He gripped Rei tight by the shoulders, pushed him back, and told him in no uncertain terms- Furuya-kun, I’d like to be friends this time.
So Rei won’t humiliate himself any further by reading into things that just aren’t there.
Not again.
Things would be far, far easier if Rei didn’t still miserably have feelings for a man who’s clearly moved on.
